This was a surprising home. Very modest and normal. ER was an amazing woman and I can't wait to learn more about her. The gift shop was lack luster. I will have to go to Amazon for my souvenir and books.

It was a very beautiful estate. I recommend visiting the FDR estate first and also the Vanderbilt Estate. They're all beautiful! The tour guide made it interesting at each place.

BEST, MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE GUIDE who brought us right into to this historical era. If the US was a monarchy, Eleanor would have been Queen. Not to be missed tour, THANK YOU!!

We didn't pay for the tour of the whole grounds (only because we didn't have time--it lasts an hour) but the cottage is open for free and has tons of historic materials and displays, basically a mini-museum. The park ranger was also fantastic. And the grounds are very pretty.

After visiting here you get a better scene of just how much of a screwed uo live Eleanor had. Especially since she married someone she was related too. The tour and home are very very nice. It is very cool they are collecting as many original things from the home as possible. Its crazy to stand next to or at spots she did!..

Wonderful video introduction to Eleanor Roosevelt's legacy. I usually find these types of videos boring but this was exceptional. The tour of the home was only a few rooms but the guide was very engaging and gave a wonderful history of the home and Eleanor.

Eleanor Roosevelt's cottage is a unique place and a perfect reflection of her outgoing, down to earth personality. The tour made her come alive and I couldn't stop thinking about her remarkable life.

Beautiful historic site located abou two miles from the FDR PRESIDENTIAL MUSEUM. The museum gave me a small map with directions to Eleanor's cottage which was very helpful. There was no admission fee. I was given a guided tour of the estate by a park employee and I learned a lot. There was a brief video before the tour started which was also interesting. Since my visit I have ordered books on Eleanor's life and her autobiography. This site is a must see on your presidential tour. Bring your cameras but flash is not allowed.

Mrs. Roosevelt was a childhood hero of mine, and an inspiration to the world. It's wonderful to see her own place. Short time needed and should be part of a visit to the home and library of FDR.

Eleanor Roosevelt was an amazing woman. As we wandered the area my wife and I kept thinking of our grandmothers, strong women involved in the Dem. Party that spent their lifetimes helping women on a personal level... I also thought of my grandfather who was involved in new deal construction projects. Sharing the history and grace of Eleanor with my boys was important and it was just a very moving experience. On a side note, I used th public restroom there and at first I was terrified I had walked into the womens room by mistake because there were flowers there... then I thought its a bathroom at Eleanors place, OF COURSE there are flowers here. Its the small touches in life that are amazing.

they aren't charging for this house. i don't know if it was a special deal, or people complained saying it wasn't worth it. for free its ok, the insides look like a normal home of the 60's. if you didn't tell me who's house it was, i wouldn't know anyone famous was living there. you start by watching a movie about her, then the ranger talks about stuff. you tour the first floor, and if your 'lucky' you can see the second floor, if its a small group, but your not missing anything special upstairs. i was annoyed that both in this and Fdr's house, we didn't get to see the kitchen.the grounds are nice, there is a nice wooden bridge over looking a small pond. it probably looks good in the autumn.

What a pleasure to spend time at the home of one of the most amazing people to have lived. Eleanor is such an inspiration to many. I was unlucky in that I wound up here after the tours were done for the day. But it was May and beautiful, the grounds were in bloom and I had everything to myself. I sat on the porch and ate my picnic dinner with my dog and imagined what it must have been like for her. It is a must if you are in the area.

This was amazing! I wish I would have had a chance to know this woman! The guide, Shannon, was the best guide I have ever had at any park - and that is saying a lot! She had studied the Roosevelt family for her master's degree and was able to give very detailed information! I highly recommend this tour!!

It was a great tour! I definitely recommend the tour. The house itself was really historic, and it was cool to be able to come inside. We learned a lot from our tour guide. It's more of an educational experience, but it's still entertaining.

Worth visiting but after seeing the big house and museum a bit of a let down. More for atmosphere than substance on this remarkable woman.

This is located in a lush park in NY. The grounds are enjoyable and you can stroll around and enjoy the landscape at your convenience (during operating hours). If you wish to tour the hours, you'll need to attend a guided tour by the park rangers. This isn't a very large location. But the larger region is full of other historical stops - so you can definitely fill up a weekend visiting this entire region, including Valkill Park.

Val-Kil is located in a beautiful area along the Hudson. Elenore Roosevelt's cottage was lovely. You can understand why she loved this place and called the cottage her home. She lived her life here from 1945, after her husband President FDR died. She was a very strong, accomplished, and interesting First Lady.

Excellent visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. The groups are gorgeous. The information about Eleanor and the grounds was very interesting and enlightening. She is a historical figure that does not get enough attention for the many things she did.

Enjoyed seeing and experiencing the history. What an amazing first lady and women. She was a patriot who served our country as first lady and the at the United Nations. The National Park Service staff were helpful and enjoyed speaking with everyone. Well worth the visit.
